Ein französischer Pianist mit Erfolg in den USA - das gibt es nicht oft. Doch Robert Casadesus (1899-1972) - mit seinem schlanken, eleganten Ton - war ein Meisterinterpret nicht nur des französischen Repertoires von Ravel (das komplette Soloklavierwerk!), Debussy oder Fauré, sondern auch, gerade in der Zusammenarbeit mit dem legendären George Szell, von Mozarts Klavierkonzerten. Auf den 65 CDs, die hier erstmals - technisch bestens restauriert - seine kompletten Aufnahmen für Columbia von 1942 bis 1969 zusammen präsentieren, erweist sich Casadesus aber auch als überzeugender, individueller Interpret von Bach, Beethoven (u.a. mit den Violinsonaten mit Zino Francecatti) wie von Chopin und Schumann. Die aufwändige Edition wird ergänzt von den Duoaufnahmen mit seiner Frau Gaby und den Einspielungen seines frühverstorbenen Sohnes Jean Casadesus.
